$1 Million Meant For Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Is Missing

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is known for helping kids foster a love of reading. Unfortunately, $1 million of funding has gone missing.

Think of Dolly Parton. What's she best known for? Well, that's a silly question - of course it's her music. She really is a living legend, right? Well, that extends into her philanthropy work. Whether it's how she helped her hometown, or her work helping kids, she really is an angel. But, there's a bit of a problem with her Imagination Library - she isn't at fault, though.

As reported by California Matters, $1 million originally meant for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has gone missing. The money was originally given to a local California non-profit Strong Reader Partnership in order to help children read.

Strong Reader Parternship originally received $19 million in 2022 order to help kids learn to love to read. However, after $1 million of spent funds, there didn't seem to be much progress. But, after this money was found to not have been utilised effectively, lawmakers forcibly gave the money over to the Dollywood Foundation, whom oversee Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

But, that original $1 million spent by the Strong Readership Partnership was never found. They never found the funds. Pretty sad stuff, really - especially as literacy is one of the most important things, especially for kids.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Has Been a Big Success

However, despite these setbacks, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has been a big success. It's worked really quite well, both in California after receiving the money, nationwide, and even across several countries!

The outlet said that since 2024, the Dollywood Foundation has served over 160,000 Californian children, and distributed almost 3 million books.

According to the Imagination Library website, Dolly Parton set up the Imagination Library because she was inspired by her father's illiteracy. The website also includes a quote from the Queen of country.

"When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are childern in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an investor or a minister... The seeds of these dreams are often found in books."

The organization mails "high quality, age-appropriate" books directly to people's homes. What a star Dolly Parton is!
