19-Year-Old Survives Crash That Kills Her Entire Family

A California family suffered a tragic car crash while on their way to church on Sunday, December 15. Five people were inside the vehicle, but only the eldest daughter, Emma Lourenco, managed to survive the horrifying crash. Her parents, Daniel and Jennifer, 44 and 45, died instantly following the collision. Emma's siblings, Madelynn, 16, and Matthew, 14, were rushed to the hospital alongside her but then succumbed to their injuries.

According to FirstAlert4, a speeding vehicle crashed against the Lourenco Jeep while they were crossing an intersection. Madelynn died in the hospital shortly after the crash. Matthew managed to survive days at the hospital but eventually died of his injuries. Emma was induced into a come and doctors inserted a breathing tube.

"We are still asking for prayers and thoughts," Jason McClelland, Jennifer Lourenco's brother, told the outlet. "Our oldest niece, the one who is still fighting on in the hospital, will likely need a lot of long-term care."

A GoFundMe campaign was set up by Stephanie Wallace on behalf of McClelland to help raise funds for funeral expenses. An update issued by Wallace confirmed Matthew's death. A subsequent update then informed that Emma Lourenco was slowly waking up from her induced coma and that she was responding to auditory and physical stimuli. She's currently breathing on her own and her family hopes she will eventually recover.

Remembering the Lourenco family.

McClelland continued to talk to FirstAlert4 and remembered each of the members of the Lourenco family very fondly. "Daniel was the best husband. He raised an amazing family of all good kids," McClelland said. "Maddie had a smile that would just light up the room. She was the social butterfly of that family.

"Matthew was just a goofy boy in a great way," McClelland continued, saying that Matthew loved soccer and cross-country running. "He ran with his heart out, just really trying to get better. No matter what it was, he always wanted to push himself."

McClelland would then talk lovingly about his sister, Jennifer, saying she had the ability to "bring the best side out" of people.

He was not the only one to remember and pay tribute to her sister, as her workplace also talked about her in a statement. "While we are still processing this unimaginable tragedy, our hearts go out to members of the Lourenco family and their loved ones," the Ceres Unified School District said in the statement. "Mrs. Lourenco was a moderate-severe teacher at Sinclear Elementary School and was Sinclear's Teacher of the Year in 2023-24." They would then describe Jennifer as a "gifted and dedicated educator."

The driver who crashed into the Lourenco's vehicle was identified as Uriel Guizar Negrete. The 22-year-old died at the scene.
