The Humvee has cemented itself into American and military culture. Now, its replacement, the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) — designed to replace Army and Marine Humvees in front-line service — is ready to roll out.

The JLTV is more durable and reliable than its predecessor. They're also better built to withstand explosive blasts.

Some of the JLTV's goods: a blast-deflecting hull, armored doors, energy absorbing floors and seats, automatic fire-suppression system and an armored capsule that's designed to absorb explosions from all sides.
In a nutshell: it's a safer and smoother transport for our troops.

The Army and Marines will start using JLTVs in early 2019. The new vehicles will replace about one-third of the military's existing Humvee fleet.
Oshkosh beat out Lockheed Martin and AM General LLC for a DoD contract to provide 17,000 JLTVs for the Army and Marine Corps. The two branches now plan on purchasing around 55,000 JLTVs between them.
