3 Outlaw Country Anthems That Still Slap Today

Continuing our outlaw conversation from the other day, cowboys and cowgirls, I thought it would be a good idea to bring back some country outlaw classics you've likely forgotten about that still absolutely slap today.

So many of our beloved outlaw songs still hold up brilliantly today. If you're in the market for some new country classics that you've missed, well stay a while.

Copperhead Road

"Copperhead Road" by Steve Earle is a classic that, let's be honest, is still listened to heavily today. I just enjoy it so much I couldn't justify leaving it out of this list. I've put it first though so people familiar can easily just skip past the entry to see what else I have to offer.

This country classic was released in 1988, as part of an album with the same name. Hilarious, this outlaw banger inspired lots of outlaw activity of its own. At the time of release, Copperhead Road was the name of a real road in Tennessee.

This led to plenty of people stealing the road sign, resulting in the road being renamed to Copperhead Hollow Road.

Lonesome, On'ry and Mean

"Lonesome, On'ry, and Mean" by Waylon Jennings is an outlaw song about being beaten down into becoming a lonely, ordinary, and nasty guy. It's a track that never fails to make the foot tap.

This song was released in 1973, as part of an album of the same name. It has remained incredibly popular, but I think it's fallen out of conversation, so let's change that.

Drunk and Crazy

"Drunk and Crazy" by Bobby Bare is definitely a forgotten banger. It's fun, raunchy, and guarantees a good time. Just hit play and try not to feel immediately a little better.

This song was released in 1980, yet again, in an album of the same name. They weren't too original with album names back then, were they?

Bobby Bare is also often forgotten about for his influence on outlaw music. He was one of the first to stray from the beaten track. All the outlaw legends we praise today walked in his footsteps. So pay some credence to the man and jam out to his music, will you?
