There are a few things people need to be proficient in before having kids. The first is of course housing stability, then comes financial stability, and finally, but maybe most importantly, an understanding of basic nutrition. However, an 8-year-old child has somehow gone blind due to his parent's inability to give him the nutrients he needs to maintain eyesight.

A vitamin A deficiency can cause problems with eyesight if not treated properly. This 8-year-old boy was left without the correct nutrition and went blind because of it. His parents claim that it was because he was a particularly fussy eater. All he would eat was chicken nuggets, sausages, and cookies.

These foods have little to no nutrition in them at all. The boy is autistic and has a particular phobia of many foods. Despite this being the case, it shouldn't have prevented them from slipping him supplements, knowing how bad his diet was.

Due to their neglect, the 8-year-old boy went blind due to a vitamin A deficiency. This vitamin helps in producing rhodopsin, a light-sensitive protein that produces pigments in the retina. Due to his deficiency, his optic nerve had wasted away, leaving him blind.

It was his teacher who noticed that he had lost his vision first. She spoke about the situation, and how sudden it seemed to be for the boy. "Teacher, why can't I see anything?" he apparently shouted. He was then rushed to the hospital where it was discovered that the 8-year-old was now blind.

Vitamin A is not a difficult one to get into the body, provided a healthy diet is followed. It is present in many vegetables, fruits, and animal products including kale, spinach, mango, guava, beef, chicken, fish, cheese, and eggs.

With a rounded diet, it is hard to escape ingesting vitamin A. Of course, in this case, the child's autism made him a fussy eater. However, this should not have prevented the parents from providing him with the necessary nutrients he needs to stay alive. There are many supplements out there that can top up vitamins and minerals where they are lacking in a diet.
