'The Wiggles' Garners Backlash For Teaching Children To Shoot The Bird

The Wiggles thought to teach kids around the world where to find a certain finger, and in the process, a cheeky member flipped off the audience.

A TikTok video hilariously shows the moment a Wiggles member slyly flipped off the audiences at home during a musical routine. A mother shared the video to her TikTok, captioned, "Welp, they got my attention."

She plays the segment in full, with the band pointing out to children where the "tall finger" is to the melody of "Pop Goes The Weasel." In doing so, they isolate their middle fingers and wiggle them back and forth.

It seems the cast were super careful to point their fingers away from the screen to their sides, to highlight their digit without shooting the bird to their young audience. Hilariously, one seems to twist their hand at the last minute and laugh after.

The mother zooms into the offending Wiggle while laughing.

Internet Reacts To Wiggle Flipping Audience Off

To be frank, I find this hilarious. Children of that age won't think anything of the gesture, as meaning is taught by others. And if any infants out there know that shooting the bird is a rude gesture, then they've probably seen something they shouldn't have.

Under the video, one comments, "the wiggles flipping the bird was not on my 2024 bingo card ?." We're nearing the end of the year and the bingo cards are still being populated.

"Not her facing it right into the camera on the way down ???," a fan laughs noticing the sleight of hand.

"Her expression, the sly smirk. Classic. ??," one wrote.

"It's funny until you actually have to do this for a kids class ??," another pines. It's clear that this may cause some disruption in classes with kids who may know that isolating your middle finger has its own meaning.

"Listen, I get it, but also, who thought this would go well?" writes another, not so pleased with the act.

The Wiggles have a history of slipping in jokes that only the parents will appreciate. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, although some care is required. Some parents won't want the damn Wiggles flipping off their kids.

Although it is pretty funny.
