One Person Dead After Tornado Rips Through The South

Multiple tornadoes have caused extensive damage throughout the southern States. Now, authorities confirm that one tornado hit Brazoria County, Texas, resulting in the death of one person, and injuring four others. The tornado touched down between Hillcrest Village and Liverpool. according to KHOU 11. The tornado destroyed ten houses and damaged a daycare center and an elementary school.

Manvel Mayor Dan Davis confirmed the death of the unidentified adult. Moreover, the four injured have sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. There is no information on exactly where the adult died or where the other four became injured.

With that being said, Brazoria County has experienced extensive property damage as a result. This has affected resident Anna Peterson, whose fifth-wheel trailer was destroyed despite it being secured.

"I heard the back door flew open and I told my husband, 'Run' and we hid in the closet with our puppies," Peterson told KHOU 11. "About two or three minutes later, it was over and then we opened the front door to see and it was all gone." According to the outlet, the fifth wheel blew over to the property next door.

Residents across the county are in shock after seeing the damage that the tornadoes have caused. "Lots of broken windows," Rebecca Ray told KHOU 11. She was referring to the damage sustained by the SMART Center Day Care. "There is some damage to the building itself and we're just waiting for people to come and assess."

Severe Storm Threat

The damage across Brazoria County stretches from County Road 191 in Liverpool all the way to Highway 35 in Hillcrest Village. Tornado warnings have been issued across several states. Parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas have a level 4 severe storm threat, according to the New York Post. Meanwhile, a zone that stretches from Texas to Florida has a level 3 severe storm threat.

"This just has a classic tornado day feel to it," Brandon Copic, FOX Weather Storm Tracker, said on Saturday. "You can just feel it in the air with how the environment is. And it was definitely an eerie feeling this morning and the amount of sunshine we've seen - the breaks in the clouds are definitely very concerning."
