The company has reported debts of over $500 million. Silver Airways is looking to complete the bankruptcy process by the end of 2025. The airline is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which will put the company into administration.

In these cases, professionals will step into the business and try to bring it back from the brink. Chapter 11 bankruptcy means that rather than the company completely going under, it can still function for a time. This saves a lot of jobs, keeps stocks on the market, when they're still available, and can sometimes mean the company will recover.

However, the fate of Silver Airways airline during its Bankruptcy proceedings is still uncertain. At the time of writing, a number of the creditors owed money by Spirit Airways are known. The airline owes the IRS $2.1 million, it also owes $1 million to both airport authorities in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.

What Silver Airways Airline Bankruptcy Means for Passengers

The airline, operating out of 29 airports, is a commonly used one for vacation fliers. The small turboprop planes are the last leg for other bigger airlines, able to do quick hops to small destinations. Many locations have relied on them including Puerto Rico, Florida, and the Bahamas.

The small airline, now filing for bankruptcy, says that passengers with tickets don't need to worry. Their tickets and flights will still be valid and go ahead as usual. For now, Silver Airways will function as normal, until the next steps are taken.

Like many airlines, Silver Airways has struggled since COVID-19, leading to bankruptcy. Numbers never really picked back up after the pandemic, and the losses could never be recovered. Speaking about the situation, the company made a statement. "This decision will allow us to secure additional capital and undertake a financial restructuring that will strengthen our position as a competitive airline"

They clearly hope to regain their footing in the market and stay afloat. However, unless somebody steps in to take control, and solve the debt issue, it may all be over.
