I just adore Carrie Underwood. She has a sumptuous voice and sings wonderful songs. Her delivery is so sincere and dramatic. I found a video on YouTube of her singing "How Great Thou Art" years ago that showed the audience on their feet even before she finished. Some of them were weeping. Only the greatest performers can evoke that kind of visceral, profoundly emotional response. She always brings it home.

But something about Underwood kind of bothers me lately. It seems to be nagging others, too. She looks much different. Her face is not the same. Of course, she has every right to decide what she wants to look like and how she chooses to achieve that outcome. Yet it is eerie and unsettling to see someone who has been in the public eye for so long with a face that all of a sudden seems to belong to somebody else. After Underwood's performance on New Year's Eve in New York's Times Square, the controversy about her appearance evidently ramped up more. The issue also arose when following her singing stint at the CMA Awards in November.
Fans Took Note Of Underwood's Changed Appearance Recently On Social Media
Their Comments Were Both Caring And Caustic
Per dailymail.co.uk, one person bluntly wrote on social media, "'Quit the plastic surgery already. Sold soul.'" She posted some throwback snaps of herself performing on New Year's Eve from 2007 and 2015 on Instagram. That prompted fans to respond both pro and con.
Per the outlet, "'How much surgery has she had since then?' one commenter questioned, as another wrote, 'way too much.'"
But another countered with this. "She looks amazing! Some people are just naturally beautiful."
Carrie Underwood's Face Became A Hot Topic In 2017 After She Fell At Home
A Year Later, Underwood Talked About Her Looks And Concerns With Ellen DeGeneres
She needed 40 stitches in her face after a painful mishap at home in Nashville. Underwood candidly shared her thoughts with Ellen DeGeneres in 2018 via dailymail.co.uk, "'I feel like I do [look different] a little bit. My biggest worry at the time was like, if I say nothing then later on... I feel like people are gonna say, 'What has she done to herself electively?' And it definitely was not a choice. I feel close to myself. I feel pretty close to normal.'"
That was then. This is now. And the chatter about Carrie Underwood's looks is probably going to continue. It will be interesting to see if it overshadows her debut as a judge on American Idol in March.
