It's clear as day that Maren Morris wants nothing to do with Nashville anymore. The days of her trying to cut her teeth in country are long gone now. Her barbs with Jason and Brittany Aldean make that plenty evident. That's not accounting for the harassment over her Morgan Wallen debacle either. She could very easily trash country music at every chance she gets. Admittedly, she does do her fair share of it. However, Morris does take a pretty mature route in considering those who want to stick it out in country.

Recently, Maren spoke with the Hollywood Reporter for an interview. There, she did cop to some of the limitations working in country brought to her career. Ultimately, Morris felt incredibly small working in the industry and it didn't line up with what she wanted for herself. "We all had our different reasons for walking away. It wasn't really a plan for me. I was just starting to see my voice get smaller and smaller and the ceiling lower and lower. I just felt like, 'I'm going to have to sacrifice a lot of comforts to be able to do what I want to do," she says.
Maren Morris Commends Artists Sticking It Out in Country
However, Maren understands where her line of thinking differs from other artists in Nashville. However, there was a baseline difference that she could not get over and she didn't mind sacrificing to get there. "I don't shame or judge anyone who wants to stay and do the carousel. A lot of people are scared to lose money or fans. For me it was like, I don't really want to do that. I've got finite time here and I'd like to live with myself and sleep at night," Morris says.
Maren remains pretty thorny to country music and she doesn't regret moving on. Not judging anyone still feels at least a little snarky to people who love working in the industry in spite of its glaring flaws. Regardless, Morris knows it was the right decision for her. "You feel alone at the beginning. And it's intentionally done to make you feel isolated from the community when you veer away from or criticize it. The last two years have been wildly uncomfortable, but that's how I know it was right," Maren states.
