During a touching tribute issued by abc27, Dimond's colleagues had loving words for the late morning host. "It is a sad day here at abc27 as we say goodbye to one of our own. Soni Dimond passed away this morning," anchor James Crummel said as he was introducing the tribute segment. "abc27 News Assignment Editor George Richards, who began his tenure here with Soni 45 years ago, has looked back at the life of our coworker and friend."
What followed was a recap of Dimond's career, coupled with Dimond's colleagues' words of admiration. Among them is Amy Kehm, host of Good Day PA, who became emotional while talking about Soni Dimond.
"This was her idea to host a segment called 'Vibrant Living' because that's how she was living - vibrantly," Kehm said. "I'm a better person for meeting Soni and there's a reason she had the last name that she did because we all want to shine bright like a Soni Dimond."
Other of Dimond's colleagues also paid her tribute, including Rober Lang, WBAL anchor who previously worked alongside Dimond. "Soni Dimond was an absolute treasure, a wonderful PR professional and classy lady," Lang posted on X. "Loved working alongside her in Harrisburg. Condolences to her husband Kevin, her family and her @abc27news family."
Remembering Soni Dimond
As previously said, Soni Dimond passed on January 9, following a previous December cardiac arrest. The news broke as Soni's husband, Kevin Martorana, published an update on Dimond's official Facebook page.
"This is Kevin, Soni's husband," Kevin wrote. "I realize some of you might not know that Soni suffered a cardiac arrest on the Dec. 27th. She never woke from that arrest. Today, at 7:05am, she peacefully passed away with me at her side." The post was then shared by Dimond's colleagues, with attached condolences.
Soni Dimond started her career back in 1978 at WTPA-TV 27. The network would then change its name to WHTM abc27. According to the outlet, she became the first female Weekend Anchor and then graduated from Gettysburg College.
