Tonya Harding Joins X and Posts First Video, and the Reactions Are Exactly What You’d Think

As one of the most controversial figure skaters in US history, Tonya Harding is loved and hated in equal measure. Her wonderful biopic, Tonya, brought her story to the world, and now Harding has come to X, to further spread her love.

Coming from a blue-collar background, Tonya Harding was hardly what you would call the typical figure skater. However, she was remarkably good at it and rose through the ranks. She was the first female figure skater to do a triple axel in the short program, the first woman to do two triple axels in a program, and the first female to perform a triple axel combination. She made waves.

But, she got wrapped up in a scandal after arranging a hit on a rival skater. In an attempt to take the Olympic place, she had Nancy Kerrigan's leg broken. Since being found out, Tonya Harding hasn't had an easy time of it, but now she is on X, willing to face the fans and foes.

Tonya Harding Says Hello To X

The short video posted on X shows Tonya Harding smiling and looking great. Standing outside in her hometown of Lillehammer, she greets the world. "Happy New Year, join me there, and let's chat it up," she says to her audience.

I am sure she is welcoming both criticism and love from the weird world of X. She's a tough cookie, and I am sure she can bear the brunt. However, for the most part, the comments are full of love. Her biopic didn't portray her as too much of a monster and showed where she had come from.

The majority of comments run with the "Break a leg," joke, but there are some original ones too. "Thank you for this, Toyota. I've been preaching your methods to my youth football players for years and would be honored to come have you speak to them. My DMs are open."

Tonya Harding has a fair amount of fans on X, with sympathy for her decisions. But, others know her personally from her wild days as a drinker in the 90's. There are a few personal references to it thrown up in the comments.

"Hey, remember that time you were incredibly drunk and you tried to get into my car in front of Kells Irish Pub because you thought it was a cab?" She had made quite a name for herself in those days following her disqualification from the figure skating circuit.
