In an interview with Taste of Country Nights, Blake Shelton shared he was surprised that his one song became such a hit. When thinking of great Blake Shelton songs, his new single "Texas" probably comes to mind but did you know he had a song that was in a way a "prequel" to his recent success. 15 years ago, Shelton released a song titled "Austin."
"Austin' was a shocker for me," Shelton admitted in the interview. Then, he explained why he thought the song would not have been a success. "I was so afraid of that song...I was just convinced that, you know, to be a new artist, you needed to come out with many an up-tempo or something fun, you know?"
I can understand his thinking, many of the most popular songs are upbeat songs. Then, the star continued, "And "Austin" is this super slow ballad story song about an answering machine." While the song may have been slow, it was not slow to raise in the chart rankings. It was one of his greatest successes, and Blake Shelton was pleasantly surprised by this fact.
"I've never been so happy in my life to be that wrong about something, you know?" the star joked. While he feared that people would not be able to connect to the love story that was clearly not an issue.
