John announced his first LP in four years in an Instagram post on Wednesday. During this strenuous 20-day process of recording with Brandi Carlile, Andrew Watt, and Bernie Taupin, John documented the making of it.
Video Shows "Nightmare" Elton John During Recording Sessions
Unfortunately, as fans have noticed after watching the footage online, there were many heated moments. This was the first time he captured behind-the-scenes footage, and it showed him getting into many arguments and fits of rage.
During one exchange, Watt asked if John was ready to record. The singer responded with "Why do you think I am sitting here?" This led to Watt eventually calling him "so impatient" in frustration. Soon after, it showed a clip of John slamming his headphones on the piano.
John described himself as being "exhausted" and "irritable" during the recording sessions in the video's voiceover. He also said while he wanted this album to be special, you can't guarantee such a thing.
Carlile even admitted to how difficult it was at times to record with John. "Elton is prone to bouts of insecurity especially where the stakes are high," she said. "There were times when I thought, 'Why does he want to do this?'"
Making a joint album with other people can certainly be difficult when there are more than one or two artists in the room. Watching this video may remind you of the saying 'too many cooks in the kitchen.' This is especially true when one clip shows John tearing up a piece of paper in anger. "I'm going home," he said before Watt asked to cut the mics.
John rightly described creating this LP as "one of the toughest" he has ever made. Still, he continued the caption by saying it was "also one of the greatest musical experiences of my life."
Who Believes In Angels? plans to release on April 4, 2025. If you're eager to hear more from it, the title track is already out now.
