Phil Collins Really Struggled To Play One Song Right

Phil Collins is exceptionally talented. But sometimes even he got fouled up a bit. Per faroutmagazine.co.uk, Collins described something that used to fluster him. "I've never been fluent with time signatures. I'm fine with seven because seven's an easy one, yet apart from that, I've never been able to just flow in and out of odd times." We all have our weaknesses professionally because we are human. That one, evidently, was Collins.' Even the outlet conceded, "...[I]t's not like he's superhuman." Yep.

He admitted, "There's a tune I play with Brand X called `And So To F', which is in nine. The only way I can play that tune in concert is to actually sing the bass line while I play. If I deviate from that, I'd be sunk."

Collins may have been exaggerating a bit. If you have closely followed his career with Genesis and then as a successful solo artist, he seems fearless and invincible. He manages to triumph at everything he puts his hand to. But it's enlightening to learn about the fallibilities of your favorite artists as well as their accomplishments and gifts. It just makes them more relatable as people.

At 74, Phil Collins Talked About Why He Left Performing Behind

Collins, who turned 74 on January 30, was very candid about why he does not perform anymore. He spoke honestly and without self-pity. The legendary musician has had a great run - and he knows it.

Per Parade via the Phil Collins: Drummer First documentary on YouTube, he said, "If I can't do what I did as well as I did it, I'd rather relax and not do anything. If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks then I will have a crack at it. I just feel like I've used up my air miles."

The recipient of eight Grammys, he has dealt with a plethora of health issues like hearing loss, nerve damage, and foot drop. Collins bade adieu to Genesis almost three years ago. He has given us so much outstanding music and so many memories to last a lifetime.
