Carrie Underwood Calls Cody Johnson The 'Real Deal' After Performing Together In Nashville

Carrie Underwood is singing the praises of Cody Johnson, after a recent performance. The two combine their talents on "I'm Gonna Love You," which is currently in the Top 10. Underwood joined Johnson for the second of his two back-to-back, sold-out shows at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on February 15 to sing their duet, taking to social media after the show to praise the Texan.

"Fun with friends!" Underwood writes. "'Twas a pleasure joining Cody Johnson on stage Saturday night at Bridgestone Arena! He's the real deal, folks! Such a great show and what a LOUD crowd!"

In addition to Underwood, Johnson was joined by Luke Combs and Ian Munsick for the second show, with Randy Houser and Marcus King joining him for the first show. Johnson later praised all of his tour guests for making the weekend unforgettable.

"Two SOLD OUT shows in Nashville," Johnson shares. "30,000 people. Absolutely unreal. Dreams do come true, y'all. Huge thanks to Carrie Underwood, Luke Combs, Ian Munsick, Marcus King, and Randy Houser for making these nights even more unforgettable!"

"I'm Gonna Love You"

Travis Denning, Kelly Archer and Chris Stevens wrote "I'm Gonna Love You" in 2016. The song was first pitched to Underwood, to sing with either Denning or by herself. She passed on the song at the time. But when Johnson found the song years later, he knew he wanted to record it for his own, but only if he could sing it with Underwood.

"From the moment I heard this song, I heard Carrie's voice on it. It was a non-negotiable for me; either we sing it together, or I wouldn't sing it at all. It's that special to me," Johnson says. "Working with Carrie has been an absolute pleasure. She's not only one hell of a singer, but she's a class act all the way around. It warms my heart to work with someone who's seen so much success in their career and they're still so down to earth. I feel like this duet is going to be massive in so many ways, and I couldn't be prouder of it!"

"I'm Gonna Love You" is from Johnson's latest Leather Deluxe Edition, out now.
