The trials and tribulations of making it within country music seems overwhelming for the average joe. It can seem like a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to being successful in the industry. Back in 2024, Church spoke on the How Leaders Lead with David Novak podcast. There, he tackles everything from his side ventures with the Charlotte Hornets to how he cut his teeth in country music. As a veteran and a star within the industry, he's one of the most equipped artists to help the next generation how to make it. Ultimately, Eric argues that it's a matter of knowing what you want for yourself. You can't do anything if you aren't confident in yourself and what you bring to the table.

"If you don't have a vision of who you wanna be, what you wanna be about, what you wanna make, what product you wanna make... there's no way for anybody to help you get to that. That's not something you can develop along the way," Eric Church says.

Church explains that the vision for himself is what kept him firm and steady when challenges arose. Enough self-confidence and a firm idea of what you want and people can get on board from there. "I always had a really clear vision of, this is the artist I want to be, these are songs I wanna write, the songs I wanna record, this is how I wanna record them, and then this is how I wanna play them. And there's a ton of challenges along that way, but that vision, if you have the vision, and you have the conviction to that vision, everybody else will get on board and help you get there," Eric says.

Lastly, Church argues that this same mentality goes just as easily for the business side of things too. Knowing what you want out of an industry aids the process when going to the negotiating table. "It's interesting, business, music it's all the same. It's all about getting to where you wanna go," Eric explains. "And for me, that has been clear throughout my entire career. If you don't have the vision, you can't expect anybody else to have it for you."
