Vince Gill Once Admitted The Eagles Aren’t As Good Without Glenn Frey

It's hard to imagine some bands minus certain members. Try to picture Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant. Or the Rolling Stones with no Mick Jagger. How about the Beatles in the absence of Paul McCartney? Pretty disturbing to even contemplate it. Along those lines, Vince Gill reportedly offered his opinion that the Eagles are not as good without Glenn Frey. (He passed away in 2016 at age 67.) Yes, it is has been hard to adjust to this iconic group with out the great singer and songwriter that Frey clearly was. He drove a lot of the band's artistic and creative triumphs, along with Don Henley.

Actually, per savingcountrymusic.com, "With the passing of Glenn Frey in 2016, everyone, including the remaining members, thought it was the final bow for one of the most successful American bands of all time." But the group's demise fortunately did not happen. Instead, Gill now plays and sings with the Eagles, helping to keep their wonderful songs alive.

Vince Gill Shared That Don Henley Was Eager To Have Him Join The Eagles After Glenn Frey's Passing

Per the outlet via an interview with the Musicians Hall of Fame, Gill recollected how he came to join the Eagles. "Don [Henley] told me in confidence, 'You're the only guy I wanted, that I would have done this with.' Which meant the world to me." He accepted the role with humility, grace, and a low-key attitude. "I've been wise in knowing when and when not to speak."

He Takes It In Stride When Fans Gripe About His Presence In The Band

Gill, 67, realizes that no one can ever really take Frey's place. He understands that even when outsiders do not.."I don't sing like Glenn, and don't pretend to. I see a lot of people making negative comments about me being in that band, and I get it. It's my favorite band too. I don't want to hear me sing 'New Kid In Town.' But the other option is not possible."

He modestly defines his role this way. "I'm just trying to do my part to keep some great songs afloat."

The songs we all know and love by the Eagles, like 'Hotel California," "Take It Easy," "Witchy Woman," and so many more will remain forever in our minds. If Vince Gill can enhance their longevity, that is a very positive development.
