Back in January, it was revealed that Carrie Underwood would be performing "America The Beautiful" at Donald Trump's inauguration. This caused a social media storm as left-leaning fans (or anyone against the president-to-be) took to boycotting the American Idol alum.
Those angry at Carrie Underwood for her show of support for Donald Trump were incredibly vocal about their outrage. They didn't stop at boycotting Underwood or American Idol, however, as Megan Moroney began to get dragged into the drama.
When she sat down with Rolling Stone, she touched on the moment fans started mentioning the singer.
On X, ex-Underwood fans started posting and commenting about them replacing Carrie Underwood with Megan Moroney on their playlists. Due to so many posts about the transition, Moroney started trending on the platform. Something she was surprised to see.
The Underwood vs Moroney argument online got a little heated at times, and Megan Moroney did not like how she was being pitted against another woman in the industry.
Megan Moroney Didn't Like The Online Arguing
"I'm like, 'Why am I getting brought into this? I'm happy that they relate to my music ... [but] I'm never happy tearing down another woman," she said.
Despite sympathizing with the heartbroken fans, she didn't feel it was right to compare two singers in such a negative way.
"I come from a really big family, with each side of the [political] spectrum. And I've found that you can't change anyone's mind. The best thing I can do is love them. That's what I want to give to my fans, too. My music is there, so hopefully, they can find comfort," she said.
Thankfully, the Underwood vs Moroney argument didn't last for too long. It's of little wonder it was so distressing for her to see.
Moroney has a very mature perspective on politics, as she has on her fans scrutinizing her dating life. It appears she's got a very level head on her shoulders.
