At the end of her performance, Underwood left the Grand Ole Opry stage to finish the song by singing directly to Randy Travis. Fans cheered as Travis, who lost his ability to sing due to aphasia following his 2013 stroke, ended the song by singing the final "amen."

Underwood was part of an all-star three-hour show, which aired live on NBC. Other performers throughout the evening included Vince Gill, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Combs and more. The show, hosted by Blake Shelton, is streaming now on Peacock.

Carrie Underwood's History with Randy Travis

Prior to Underwood's performance, she revealed that, as a child, she stole one of her sister's cassette tapes of Travis. Since childhood, Underwood has been enamored with Travis and his voice. Underwood later got to meet her musical idol, although she admits it did not go as planned.

"The first time I met him, I totally embarrassed myself. I cried and he was the nicest guy ever," Underwood recalls on her own Apple Music Country's XO Radio show (via Music Mayhem). "I went on to cover one of his songs on my album [Carnival Ride]. It was a hit for him twice in that sense and I also got to sing with him on a song called 'Is It Still Over.'"

Fast forward to 2008, and it was Travis who invited Underwood to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Travis surprised Underwood by joining her on stage to ask if she would like to become a member.

Last year, Underwood was one of Travis' guests, when he unveiled his first new song, "Where That Came From," since his stroke.

"Congratulations Randy Travis on the release of ["Where That Came From"}!" Underwood

said after the song was released. "I had no idea what you had up your sleeve when we recently met, but I'm so honored that you included me to preview this song...it's amazing."

Travis recently revealed that he is the subject of a new biopic, Forever and Ever, Amen, starring Clay Walker.
