"Our hearts are broken," the caption reads. "With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose."

The boxing legend was born in Marshall, Texas in 1949, winning his first gold medal at 19 years old in 1968. After such a monumental victory, he formally starts his professional career. When it was all said and done, Foreman would walk away from the ring with an incredible 76-5 record, with 68 of his wins by knockout. After a decade-long hiatus and a brief return, he hung up his boxing gloves for good in 1997.

Then, he becomes a stellar businessman, introducing the George Foreman Grill to the world. He ends up selling his naming rights and his investment in the company for a whopping $137 million. Additionally, he beats out Hulk Hogan in acquiring the line of grills, highlighting his savvy entrepreneurial mind.

Fans are currently mourning and eulogizing the iconic fighter. One Twitter user succinctly describes George as a godly figure in the ring. They recall a time that distinctly informs how they see the sport to this day.

"A formative boxing memory for me was almost 49-year-old George Foreman f---g up almost 26-year-old Shannon Briggs and losing on a ridiculous decision. He was the most frightening athlete on earth when he was almost 26, then he came back from the unthinkable. Rest easy," they write.
