Twenty years ago, Bo Bice faced off against Carrie Underwood in the American Idol Season 4 finale. Underwood clinched the title in 2005 with more viewer votes, leaving Bice as runner-up. Now, with Underwood returning as an Idol judge, fans wonder what the second-place singer has been doing since their showdown.

Bice keeps rocking as a solo artist, though he hasn't dropped an album since 2010. From 2013 to 2018, he sang with Blood, Sweat & Tears, touring the U.S. and beyond. Beyond music, Bice dives into acting and art. In 2023, he starred in a Florida production of Rock of Ages, running January to March.
"I'm a dad and husband first, and I pretend to be a rock star on the weekends," Bice once said, via TV Insider. He now calls himself "semi-retired," focusing on family life in Georgia.
Health scares have shadowed his journey. In August 2005, during the Idol tour, Bice endured weeks of stomach pain before emergency surgery in Las Vegas. "Bo underwent a critical procedure to save his life," his website announced. A blocked intestine demanded immediate action, followed by six weeks of rest. He recovered but faced setbacks that December. Rehearsing for the Radio Music Awards in Vegas, Bice landed back in the hospital. "He didn't collapse but needed urgent care," his publicist said. He returned to Nashville for treatment.
Singer Focuses On Health
Early 2006 brought more trouble. Complications from the prior surgery sent Bice to the hospital 20 times between tour dates. Another operation followed. "Tests showed surgery was urgent," his publicist noted. A complication forced a second procedure the next day. "We hope this fixes it, but there's no guarantee," the statement added. Bice overhauled his diet and lifestyle in response.
The singer wed Caroline Fisher in June 2005, weeks after Idol wrapped. They met when he managed a guitar store and she waitressed at a café he loved. In 2024, he posted a birthday tribute on Instagram: "Happy birthday to my wife Caroline. I love you and wish you the happiest day, Angel."
The couple shares four kids. Aidan arrived in September 2005, Caleb in August 2008, Ean in 2010, and Merrin in 2012. Bice celebrates them online. For Merrin's 12th birthday in April 2024, he wrote, "We love you, Merrin! Don't grow up too fast, Tootie!" Aidan, now a tuba player, hit all-state and marched in the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. When Caleb started driving in January 2024, Bice shared, "He's getting better every day. I love the time with him."
Bice balances family and his creative spark, a far cry from his Idol days. While Underwood judges anew, he thrives in his quieter, steadfast groove.
