A former Bloomberg executive, Richard Samarel, 54, his wife Lina, 45, and their nine-year-old daughter, Samantha, were found dead in their South Carolina home on Friday, March 28. It is believed by the local police that there is no threat to the public. However, the Samarel deaths remain a mystery for now.

According to the
Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived at the family home in Greer at around 11:30 a.m. They had previously received an unknown call from a concerned neighbor. Upon arriving at the residence, they were met with a language barrier. However, once it was addressed, they discovered the bodies of Richard, Lina, and Samantha Samarel inside the home.No further information regarding the deaths has been revealed or shared by the sheriff's office. However, they have stated that the incident does not pose any type of threat to the public. Moreover, the sheriff's office confirmed that other residents of the house were in school at the time of the incident.
"More information will be released at the appropriate time once both the Coroner's Office and this agency can further their respective investigations of this incident," the sheriff's office wrote. They have also asked for compassion in media coverage and social media comments. "Rather than piece mill answers to follow-up questions from individual media outlets, more detail will be provided in a subsequent release."
As per the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office, and reported by WYFF, the estimated time of death of all three Samarels was between 10:20 a.m. and 11:29 a.m.

According to the New York Post, Richard Samarel was a former equities manager at Bloomber LP. He left the company in 2007. Lina Samarel was a Colombian national who worked for the US Department of Veterans Affairs. They got married in 2009 and shared their six-bedroom home in Greer with their children.
The identity of the other residents mentioned in the sheriff's office statement has not been officially confirmed. However, as per Lina's social media posts, they might be two of the couple's other kids, a son and a daughter. While it isn't confirmed, it just sheds a light on the tragedy of the situation.
