Cody Johnson Dishes on Why He Loves "Dirt Cheap" Amidst Its ACM Awards Nomination

Recently, Warner Music Nashville congratulated their artists for reeling in nominations at the ACM Awards. They highlight Dan + Shay, Dasha, Bailey Zimmerman, and Gavin Adcock out of their roster to receive consideration. However, Cody Johnson stands out from the pack with six hefty nominations in total. Particularly, his duet with Carrie Underwood "I'm Gonna Love You" and his single "Dirt Cheap" are the songs receiving love from the industry.

Consequently, the label has him discuss what he loves about those two songs. For "Dirt Cheap" in particular, Cody finds the record especially relatable to his personal life. "I personally relate to this song because I have a ranch at home that I have memories with my daughters growing up with memories with my wife and my horses and my dogs and my cows and things that mean a lot to a guy like me. So, when you hear that, know that that one comes from the bottom of my heart," Johnson says.

Additionally, Cody emphasizes the staggering simplicity that makes a duet like "I'm Gonna Love You" so impactful. "Honestly, it was just the simplicity. No matter what happens...I'm going to love you. It could be good. It could be bad, and I'm going to love you. Things are going to change. Things are going to be the same...and I'm going to love you," Johnson stresses.

"I thought the simplicity of that, that notion...just no matter what happens, I'm going to love you. And the melody," Cody adds. "God, I don't know which one of the writers came up with the melody of this song, but it's so good. I look forward to singing it, you know what I mean? Like it's a singer's song."
