Jon Pardi has just released Honkeytonk Hollywood, a great new album featuring 17 tracks. Deciding what goes in and what stays out of an album can be pretty difficult, so we spoke to Jon Pardi to pick his brain on the matter.

When we asked Jon Pardi how he decided on the 'sound' of the album, he told us how he narrowed his tracklist down.
"Tip for everybody doing a record: It's the songs you can't live without, and I guess I couldn't live without these 17 songs," he answered. "We had more, in the studio and, you know, it's amazing when you get in, you start working and making songs come to life, some don't fit."
"And these are the 17 that me and Jay came and knocked out of the park."
For Jon Pardi, deciding what makes the LP and what doesn't isn't just a matter of choosing the 'best' songs. Whether the songs fit together and compliment each other.
"I think this is an awesome record. I think me and Jay are gonna make some more awesome records, too."
Jon Pardi Shares The One Song That Didn't Make The Cut
While we had him, we also asked Jon Pardi about any songs that didn't quite make the album.
"Yes, there was one track, that I wrote with a great friend," he recalled. "We loved it."
The song was "such a wonderful performance, with just me and a guitar in my shop and this big open reverb."
"It had everything and it was so cool and it just, we just never got it as a band," he lamented. "We never got it in the studio. And instead of like forcing, you know, when you have songs, you don't want to force something to sound good or like it just wasn't working."
"And, it was called Old School Kind of Love. It was just like a very romantic song about, you know, taking care of whoever you're with, and manners and such," he explained. "It was pretty, but we just couldn't get it, so it happens."
I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we need "Old School Kind Of Love" as a single, ASAP. If he plans to release a deluxe edition of the album, maybe it'll appear there.
