Swatting is the newest form of prank that has been trending recently — and celebrities seem to be a prime target. According to the NY Post, a"'swatting' prank, is when someone makes a fake call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of armed police officers to a specific address."

Naturally it can be quite a surprise to the homeowner when police arrive to their home unannounced. Additionally, making a false 911 call is no laughing matter. While each state has their own specific codes on the matter, California is pretty strict when it comes to this. The Simmrin Law Group shares the specifics of the state's code on falsified 911 reports.

They write, "Misdemeanor prank 911 calls can result in $1,000 in fines and up to one year in county jail. However, if you make a fake 911 call that causes severe bodily injury or wrongful death, your misdemeanor can increase to a felony with up to $10,000 in fines and three years in county jail."

So besides the surprise of a lifetime, these victims of swatting pranks could also be accused of making a false 911 call, which could land them in some hot water. So who would want to swat Gordon Ramsay?

The Results of The Gordon Ramsay Swatting

On Tuesday night, around 8:40 p.m. LAPD arrived to the home of Gordon Ramsay. They had received a 911 call claiming that they heard gunshots at the celebrity's Bel Air mansion. However when police arrived to the scene it appeared that the celebrity chef and his family were not home.

Additionally, Ramsay's neighbors confirmed that they did not hear any shots or see anything suspicious. Police were quick to realize that this was most likely another swatting prank. After all, Gordon Ramsay is not the first celebrity to get "swatted."

The NY Post shared that earlier in the month a similar incident happened to rapper Nicki Minaj and her Hidden Hills home. Authorities received a call of "assault with a deadly weapon" but found no evidence of any crime having been committed once they arrived to the scene.

Additionally, celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, JoJo Siwa, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, and Rihanna have all also been targets of this trending swatting prank. As far as why someone would try to swat Gordon Ramsay — that remains unclear. Perhaps it is someone whose cooking skills he criticized too harshly in the past.

Regardless of the reason, it was definitely an invasion of the chef's privacy and hopefully local police find who is responsible.
