Police found Nyweide lifeless on a riverbank near a Bennington high school around 4 a.m. on April 14. "First responders arrived and attempted life-saving measures," Bennington Police said Wednesday. Despite their efforts, authorities declared Nyweide dead at the scene. A man present with her contacted 911 and is cooperating with investigators. Police do not consider him a suspect.

Nyweide's death certificate, obtained by multiple news outlets, confirmed her pregnancy. A source told People she appeared to be in the early stages. "This is a fluid investigation," police told The New York Post. "We await final autopsy and toxicology reports from the Vermont Office of Chief Medical Examiner." Results may take six to eight weeks.

Investigation Explores Overdose

Authorities investigate Nyweide's death as a possible unintentional overdose. "Investigators are considering a range of causes, including foul play," police noted. Nyweide's mother, Shelly, suspected drug use. "My knowledge is she was using drugs and was a tiny young woman," Shelly told TMZ. "She was with other people when she died. I didn't know them. The autopsy results are not in."

Nyweide's obituary highlighted her struggles. "Sophie was a kind and trusting girl," the memorial read. "Often this left her open to being taken advantage of by others." It noted her art and writings revealed deep pain. "Many of her writings and artwork are roadmaps of her struggles and traumas," the obituary stated. "She self-medicated to deal with all the trauma and shame she held inside, and it resulted in her death."

The tribute added, "Even with those roadmaps, diagnoses, and her own revelations, those closest to her, plus therapists, law enforcement officers, and others who tried to help her are heartbroken their efforts couldn't save her." Nyweide rejected treatment, insisting, "She would 'handle it' on her own."

A Bright Career Cut Short

Nyweide launched her acting career in 2006 with a role in "Bella." She appeared in "Law & Order," "Margot at the Wedding," and "Mammoth" by 2009. In 2010, she starred in "An Invisible Sign" with Jessica Alba. Her final feature film, "Noah," hit theaters in 2014, followed by a 2015 short film, "Born Again."

Nyweide's death marks a tragic end to a promising career. Police urge anyone with information to contact the Bennington Police Department as the investigation continues.
