Teddi Mellencamp has been through the wire during her cancer battle. The whiplash from her decent moments to her tremendous lows have been vicious. When reports came that her cancer had spread to her lungs and brain, it felt like the worst was inevitable. It even came to a point where her father was preparing to have to bury his own daughter. However, despite all of the heartache, Mellencamp is trying to remain in high spirits. Thankfully, she has a bit of good news for once.

Recently, Teddi spoke with PEOPLE at An Unforgettable Evening Benefiting the Women's Cancer Research Fund in Beverly Hills. There, she candidly opens up about her health and her current state of mind. "I'm feeling pretty good," Mellencamp says. "I mean, today is day five post immunotherapy, so it's day four. And five are always the hardest."

Additionally, she reveals that, although she tries to keep a positive outlook, there are plenty of times where she's at rock bottom. However, Mellencamp highlights her family and friends for giving her the courage to wake up and fight every morning. "You know, when people come up to me and they're like, 'You're so strong, you did this.' I'm like, half the time I'm strong, and half the time I'm crying and sad," Teddi admits. "[But, at the moment] I feel good. What I've learned is that I have amazing kids. I have amazing friends and a support system that's there for me, and I think that's huge."
Currently, Mellencamp is just hoping that the end is near and things look up after her current round of treatment. "We did a double dose five days ago, and then I have another set next Wednesday. And then I hope, hopefully I'm done," Teddi says.
