Urban will be honored with tribute performances by Chris Stapleton, Brothers Osborne and Megan Moroney. The last time an artist received the award during the ACM Awards ceremony was in 2010, with Carrie Underwood.

"In particular, if it inspires some people from other countries who have a dream of coming to America, then that's a good thing," Urban tells Billboard, speaking of the honor. "It took a lot of years of living in [Nashville] and becoming part of the community. But it's absolutely achievable if you're willing to put in the hard work and the time."

The 2025 ACM Awards will air live from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas on Amazon Prime on Thursday, May 8. The show begins at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Keith Urban's Path in Country Music

Urban has had plenty of success in country music, but it took a lot of hard work. Urban vividly recalls moving to the United States from Australia, with dreams of being a country music singer.

"All I wanted to do was live in America — in Nashville — make records," Urban tells WKML. "See if I could get some of those songs on the radio. See if I could get some songs that people know, and then those people maybe want to come and see those songs live. And then, I could tour with my own music as a live performer."

Once Urban started having hits, he realized he needed to dream bigger dreams, if only to keep challenging himself.

"That's it. That's all I wanted to do," Urban says. "So, from that standpoint, I checked those boxes a long time ago. But then like anything, there's then new interests — musically for me just seeing where my music can go, where I can go musically, just exploring. Musical exploration, always."
