Are We Getting New Waylon Jennings Music? Son Is Hinting At It

Anybody up for some new Waylon Jennings music? I'm usually very wary of posthumous music for a variety of different reasons. Unfortunately, a lot of those decisions are made by a label, desperate to cash out on name value. If the artist was a known breadwinner for them, it's a no-brainer for them. Moreover, the artist isn't around to approve either. Maybe there are songs that stayed in the vault for a reason and people behind the scenes are emptying the vault anyway. Regardless, there's an icky feeling I get when an artist passes and the powers that be decide to cash out while they can.

However, there is a way to do it right. Letting Waylon Jennings' son Shooter dictate some of it seems like the perfect idea. Consequently, you aren't impeding on an artist's vision. It's far more likely that Shooter would do right by his father's legacy. Apparently, he's doing just that by teasing some of Waylon's unreleased music.

'Some Really Cool Waylon stuff' On The Way According to Son Shooter Jennings

Recently, Shooter made an update on his Instagram, thanking fans for their support. Additionally, he informs them on how he'll personally be handling Waylon's socials and what could be on the horizon. "Hey y'all, it's Shooter. I just wanted to take a minute to thank all the wonderful Waylon fans for keeping his memory alive all these years. Singing his songs,  playing his songs, listening to his music. I gotta say, you guys are the best fan base in the world, the love that comes in daily means the world to me and my family," he says.

"And I wanted to let you know that I'm going to be posting on social media now a little here and there on the Waylon pages some personal memories, some messages, getting you guys ready for some really cool Waylon stuff that's coming up," Shooter adds.

This comes on the heels of Waylon's son announcing on Father's Day last year that he's got a bunch of fully realized songs from his dad. I guess now, it's only a matter of time. "I'm in possession of a treasure trove of previously unheard full band Waylon Jennings multi-track recording from the 70's and early 80's and I have begun preparing the material to be mixed," Shooter reveals. These are not demos. These are not unfinished, but, they will take some time to explore, prepare, and mix. You've got something to look forward to - there will be new, classic Waylon Jennings music in 2025. Stay tuned."
