A career as prolific and internationally successful as the one Dolly Parton has forged for herself doesn't come without some sacrifices. She's recently spoken about what she had to give up to become the icon she is today.

Recently, Dolly Parton has been given her own exhibit in the Country Hall of Fame. It's titled Dolly Parton: Journey of a Seeker and covers her meteoric rise to music success and international stardom. From her humble beginnings to the icon she is now, and everything in between, is explained.
When Dolly Parton was given the time to open the exhibit and thank the Hall of Fame for the opportunity, she spoke of her sacrifices. "I've sacrificed time with family and friends. I gave up vacations for work without end. Twenty-four seven, 365, but I was willing to make that sacrifice. But empty or full, I've carried my pain. But you don't drink the water if you don't dig the well."
In typically lyrical fashion, Dolly Parton spoke about the sacrifices and rewards. "Grindstones and rhinestones have made up my life, and you ask, 'Was it worth the sacrifice?' Well, I reckon it was because I'm here tonight."

Dolly Parton Remains Forever Humble In The Face Of International Fame
Despite her success, almost entirely self-made, Dolly Parton remains humble. She has never been one to show off or gloat. In fact, she's one of the most willing to help out new, rising stars, offering encouragement and guidance. She is also quick to acknowledge those who helped her become the superstar she is today.
On the podium, Dolly Parton continued after speaking of her sacrifices. "And I'm thankful for every person who's ever helped me. And I'm thankful for you tonight. I love all of you, and I hope you have a good time when you go through and look at a few of the things, and kind of see my journey as a singer."
How can anyone not love Dolly Parton? She's a shining beacon of hope, self-made success, and country music. I am sure the sacrifices she has made can sometimes weigh heavily on her shoulders. However, the empire she has created around herself and her image is something to be proud of.
