First New Look At 'King Of Hill' Revival Hits Me Right In The Nostalgia

Fire up the grill and dust off your lawn chair, as "King of the Hill" is coming back.

The beloved animated sitcom from Mike Judge and Greg Daniels is officially returning, with a new season set to premiere soon on Hulu. The announcement was made on social media and the post featured a promotional flyer teasing the updated look of several main characters in 2025 fashion.

Among them: Bill (Stephen Root) receives an Uber Eats delivery; Dale, now voiced by series veteran Toby Huss following the death of Johnny Hardwick, plays VR games while puffing a vape; and Boomhauer (Judge) reads a tablet next to an electric scooter. Meanwhile, Hank Hill, faithful as ever, remains unchanged, propane tank in hand.

Hulu Taps Into Nostalgia

While plot details remain under wraps, the revival aims to preserve the original charm that made "King of the Hill" a cult favorite while updating its characters for the modern era. Judge, who voices both Hank Hill and Boomhauer, continues to deliver sharp, grounded humor in new projects, including HBO Max's "Common Side Effects," which recently earned a second-season renewal.

The series originally aired on Fox from 1997 to 2009, with four final episodes airing in syndication in 2010. Over 13 seasons and 259 episodes, "King of the Hill" won two Emmys and earned praise for its dry, character-driven storytelling.

Its strength lay in subtle comedy drawn from everyday life -- family squabbles, work frustrations, and the quirks of small-town America.

The show's enduring popularity fueled years of syndication and reruns on networks such as FXX, Adult Swim, and Comedy Central. It also attracted notable guest stars including Ann Richards, Chuck Mangione, the late Tom Petty, and Johnny Depp.

From Beavis to The Hill

Judge developed the idea for "King of the Hill" while working on MTV's "Beavis and Butt-Head." After Fox expressed interest, he partnered with Greg Daniels, a former "Simpsons" writer, to refine the pilot. The series debuted as a midseason replacement and quickly became a staple of Fox's Sunday night lineup.

In January 2022, Judge and Daniels formed Bandera Entertainment, announcing plans to revive the series. Hulu confirmed its pickup of the revival in January 2023.

Now, fans can look forward to another chapter of propane-powered laughs. An official release date is expected soon.

And no less than Hank Hill would probably say it best: "I tell you what, I've been waiting for this."
