"It's become a cool friendship," Aldean says on Country Countdown USA. "I don't call him all the time."
Perhaps surprisingly, the Commander in Chief prefers talking on the phone to texting.
"He's not much of a texter," Aldean reveals. "But I will call him from time to time. He's more a pick up the phone and call kind of guy."
Aldean enjoyed a career first when he played at President Trump's inauguration celebration.
"We went from Crash My Playa in Mexico to the inauguration, where it was snowing," Aldean recalls. "First time we played for a president. It was a cool thing, a thing you check off the list."
How Jason Aldean's Friendship With President Trump Began
Aldean and Trump might seem like an unlikely pair. But even more surprising, it was Trump who initiated the friendship.
"Somebody reached out to us a few years ago," Aldean recounts. "He wasn't in office. They invited us to Mar-a-Lago, then invited us to play golf, the convention, and the inauguration. For the convention, I was just there rehearsing, when they asked me to sit in his box with his family. I wasn't even dressed for the occasion. Just in a t-shirt and jeans."
Now the two socialize together, both together and for events. As much as Aldean admires Trump for his political views, he admires him even more for his golf skills, which is why he never takes a golf bet with Trump.
"He's pretty good," Aldean acknowledges. "I feel he'd take my money. He's a pretty good golfer."
It might have been Trump who initiated their friendship, but it was Aldean who asked to play for the inauguration.
"I don't think it's a big secret that I'm a Trump fan," Aldean admits on the Try That In A Small Town podcast. "I love what he does. I think he's my kind of president. He's a friend, and it was an honor for us to get to play that. It was something that I actually made the call and said, 'Hey, this is something that I want to be a part of.' I want us to be a part of [it], and if there's any way for you guys to include us, let me know.'"
