The Artist That Bob Dylan Thought Was A Step Above The Rest

Bob Dylan is a senior statesman of the music world. He has been around a long time. Decades, in fact. Dylan earned a 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, which is like Grammy prestige times 100 at least. He's seen everybody and everything over the years - trends, cultural shifts, bona fide stars, wannabes, and gimmicks. Now 84, he's revered by just about all, in and beyond the music industry. When Dylan says someone is really great or influenced him, people sit up straight and listen. Per faroutmagazine.co.uk, he came out with an illuminating comment or two about that very subject. You will find it interesting even if you are not a Dylan devotee.

People Respect Bob Dylan's Candor; He Did Not Hold Back About His Thoughts On Liam Clancy

Per the outlet via a talk with Bono, Dylan said, "...Irish music has always been a great part of my life because I used to hang out with the Clancy Brothers. They influenced me tremendously." The outlet continued, "The Clancy Brothers are made up of Liam, Paddy, Tom and Bobby; however, it was Liam that Dylan was a particular fan of...he believes Liam may well be the best singer he has ever heard."

Heady praise indeed!

He Really Likes The Clancy Brothers, Especially Liam Clancy

According to Dylan, "One of the things I recall from that time is how great they all were. I mean there is no question, but that they were great. But Liam Clancy was always my favourite singers, as a ballad singer. I just never heard anyone as good, and that includes Barbara Streisand and Pearl Bailey."

Per allmusic.com, Dylan added, "He was just the best ballad singer I ever heard in my life. Still is, probably. I can't think of anyone who is a better ballad singer."

More On Liam Clancy

According to the outlet, Clancy, who passed away at the age of 74 in 2009, came to America in 1956. The Clancy Brothers became an important component of the lively cultural scene in New York's thriving Greenwich Village. Being on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1961 propelled them even further to fame and widespread recognition.

Liam eventually broke away professionally from his siblings to have a solo career. He reunited with them in the mid-1980s. Years later, Liam toured with his son and nephew until a decade before his death..
