Technically, summer starts on June 21, but if the sun's out, these songs will be too. I love these songs, and I know my summer will be defined by them.

To me, a good summer song is one that uplifts the soul. It'll inject you with a smile or fill your head with a beat that'll force you to tap your feet. Winter is for brooding and emotions. Summer is for fun and foolishness.

By the way, all four following songs are on our mighty playlist of the best new music that gets updated every week. Remember to give it a save.

Let's get into it.

Southern Lover

"Southern Lover" by Joey Myron has been praised by me before when I ranked it as the top song in one of our weekly rankings. Whenever this song plays, I simply must put in my second earbud. The summer vibes in this song swirl around the brain as Myron sings about a tale of two Broadways.

His voice floats in the song like a sultry summer's haze as the scene is set by the vivid instruments. The song also mentions "summer," which helps a lot here.

Living Till My Dying Day

"Living Till My Dying" by Adam Chaffins is another personal favorite. The song itself is relaxed yet very hopeful, a theme I can so get behind when enjoying the sun.

The easy-going guitars and laid-back drums allow the song to flow over you like the first sip of a cold beer. We need more chill optimism in music these days.

One For The Road

"One For The Road" by Preston Cooper just is summer. If this doesn't become my soundtrack for the next few months, then I've done something wrong.

The song is a powerful injection of 'hell yeah,' and is perfect for any road trips you have coming up this summer. i can practically feel the heat on my back and the wind in my face when this comes on.

Moves Like Mexico

"Moves Like Mexico" by Sammy Arriaga is the time-told tale of 'damn, she's hot.'

This song is made for the summer. Not only do the instruments spell this out for us, but the singer uses "beach bummed out" to make sure the message gets across.

When you're dancing in the dive bars this summer, make sure to have this song on standby. You never know when it'll become relevant.
