ABC News has suspended senior national correspondent Terry Moran after a late-night social media outburst targeting top White House adviser Stephen Miller and former President Donald Trump.

The network confirmed that Moran's comments violated editorial standards on impartiality and objectivity.
"ABC News stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others," a spokesperson said. "The post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards -- as a result, Terry Moran has been suspended pending further evaluation."
Moran's now-deleted posts went viral on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, where he accused Miller of being driven by hate. "It's not brains. It's bile," Moran wrote in part, calling Miller a "world-class hater" and describing Trump as someone whose hatred serves "his own glorification."
Screenshots of the remarks circulated quickly, prompting fierce criticism from Republican leaders and Trump allies.
ABC Reporter Receives Backlash
Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, who also serves as Vice President under Trump, shared the post and blasted Moran's rhetoric.
"An ABC journalist posted this absolutely vile smear of Stephen Miller. It's dripping with hatred," Vance wrote on X. "Remember that every time you watch ABC's coverage of the Trump administration."
The timing of Moran's comments coincided with unrest in California. Hundreds of protesters clashed with law enforcement near Paramount last week, attempting to block Border Patrol operations. In response, Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops across the Los Angeles area, calling the unrest a "domestic insurrection."
Miller, a key architect of Trump's immigration policy, publicly defended the administration's response. He has long been a polarizing figure, drawing both staunch support and fierce opposition over his hardline stances.
History of Political Commentary
This is not Moran's first time making waves with his political commentary. In November, he posted that he predicted Trump's 2016 and 2024 victories, describing Trump as a "nationalist" with "an authoritarian cast of mind." He emphasized at the time that he was "not endorsing any political point of view."
Despite the controversy, Moran had remained one of ABC's most recognizable on-air figures. In April, he landed a high-profile sit-down interview with Trump during the former president's 100 days in office milestone. The two clashed over the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an El Salvadoran national with alleged MS-13 ties.
The suspension also comes months after ABC paid a $15 million settlement in a defamation case Trump filed over comments made by George Stephanopoulos, who referenced the word "rape" in coverage of the E. Jean Carroll civil case. Trump has denied any wrongdoing in that case.
Moran has not commented publicly on the suspension.
