Michael Tait, former lead singer of the Christian rock band Newsboys, is facing multiple allegations of sexual assault, grooming, and drug abuse, according to a new investigative report published by The Roys Report.

The claims span two decades and include alleged misconduct involving alcohol, cocaine, and inappropriate sexual behavior.

Tait, 59, left the band in January after 16 years. His departure came one day after a viral TikTok post questioned his sexuality. While Tait did not cite the post in his resignation, Newsboys' current members say he confessed at the time to "living a double life."

Band Responds to Allegations

Band members Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein, and Adam Agee addressed the claims publicly in an Instagram post.

"Last night our hearts were shattered when we read the news alleging drug abuse and inappropriate sexual actions by our former lead singer, Michael Tait," the statement read. "While Michael has not addressed these allegations, we are devastated even by the implications."

The band expressed sympathy for the alleged victims, urging anyone affected to come forward.

"We absolutely do not condone any form of sexual assault," they wrote. "We are fathers and husbands, and we are horrified, heartbroken, and angered."

Allegations Detail Assault and Substance Abuse

According to The Roys Report, three men -- each 22 years old at the time -- say they encountered Tait during Newsboys tours in 2004, 2010, and 2014.

Two of the men claim Tait gave them alcohol before they lost consciousness and awoke to him allegedly fondling them. The third accuser says Tait offered him cocaine on the band's tour bus, gave him a massage in a hot tub, and later touched him inappropriately in bed.

Tait has not responded publicly to the allegations.

A Storied Career Shaken

Tait joined Newsboys in 2009 after leading the Christian rap/rock group DC Talk. Under his leadership, Newsboys earned numerous accolades, including four Grammy nominations and six Dove Awards. The band gained further prominence with an appearance in the 2014 film God's Not Dead, where they performed their hit of the same name.

In his Jan. 16 departure post, Tait framed his decision as personal and spiritual.

"Amidst prayer and fasting, I have clarity that this is the right decision," he wrote. "This decision does not come lightly and has been a shock to even myself."

The now-deleted TikTok video that preceded his exit had received more than 250,000 views before being removed for violating platform policies.

As of Monday, no criminal charges have been filed. The allegations remain under scrutiny as the Christian music industry reacts to a growing scandal involving one of its most recognizable voices.
