Not everyone wants to play the game that comes with moving up in Hollywood. Quietly, this is a part of every industry, that being agreeable will help boost our paychecks. Do enough favors, shake enough hands, the networking, all of it is a part of moving upwards. It can be a deeply exhausting experience, especially because it doesn't even include the actual work you have to do. It's especially true in Hollywood, though, and Billy Bob Thornton decided he didn't want to be a part of it anymore.

Recently, the Landman actor spoke with PEOPLE at a 'for your consideration' event for the show. There, they ask him about his lead role on the show as Tommy Norris and if there are any comparisons between himself and the character. Thornton ultimately kind of shrugs at it. He admits that Tommy's wheelhouse of oil and politics is far removed from the kind of energy he indulges in. All of that maneuvering is the exact reason why he doesn't consider himself a part of Hollywood.
Billy Bob Thornton Believes He Isn't a Part of Hollywood for This Reason
"Well, I kind of don't. I stay home," the Friday Night Lights actor says. "I mean, really, I don't talk about politics and stuff with people, I just kind of stay out of it all. I'm not really much of a part of Hollywood, as you say. I'm at home with the family, or I'm in a recording studio or on the road or making this. "Those are the things I do, and I just kind of mind my own business.
Aside from all the politicking, though, Thornton does see a bit of himself in the Landman role. Moreover, he also explains that the role was much more exciting than he anticipated. "It's just unabashedly who he is," he adds. "I mean, he doesn't kind of hold back. It's almost like a few characters I've played boiled into one. He's like the guy from Goliath, Bad Santa, it's like he doesn't suffer fools, but he also has some fun every now and then. I'm just basically playing who I would be if I were a landman."
