But on the evening of Sunday, June 8, the last day of the event, a lethal tragedy marred the buoyant atmosphere. Singer Conner Smith, 24, allegedly struck an elderly female pedestrian who was walking her dog with his truck. She was in the crosswalk, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police. That individual, Dorothy Dobbins, 77, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Conner Smith's Attorney Released This Statement About The Tragic Accident That Fatally Injured A Female Pedestrian

Per American Songwriter via People, the statement said Smith "was 'involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life."

It continued, "His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation." As of this time, Smith has not spoken publicly about what happened.

It Specified What Is Believed To Be The Cause Of The Accident

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department issued a statement about the accident on Monday, June 9. It read in part, "The preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Conner Smith, 24, was traveling north on 3rd Avenue North as Dobbins was crossing the roadway. It appears that she was inside a marked crosswalk when she was struck around 7:30 p.m. Dobbins, who lived nearby, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.

The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment. There are no charges at present as the investigation continues."
