Brett Young Reveals Heartwarming Reason He And Wife Taylor Refused To Sign A Prenup

Brett Young and his wife Taylor Mills have been married since 2018. When the couple said "till death do us part," they meant it, since Young reveals they don't even have a prenuptial agreement. Young shares his thoughts behind his decision in his song, "That Ain't Yours," from his forthcoming 2.0 album.

"I said, 'I'm not starting a marriage with a 'If this doesn't work out,'" Young tells American Songwriter. "I'm so not doing that. A song idea was born: when you get married, you're not just sharing your heart; you're sharing everything. Nothing against people that go in with all the contingency plans, but I'm the type that has to go all in. That's one of my favorite, most romantic expressions of love."

Young and Taylor together have two daughters, 5-year-old Presley and Rowan, who is 3. They are the force behind everything he does, even if he sometimes has guilt about it. The angst is evident in another song, "Who I Do It For," featuring Lady A.

"I have to constantly remind myself, 'You're not being selfish,'" Young explains. "You're out here to provide for your family. I don't think they're old enough to understand that yet."

Brett Young's Wife And Two Daughters

Young and Taylor famously dated for several years, before breaking up in 2016. They split, Young moved to Nashville, and the two ultimately realized they were meant for each other. Even before they got married, they thought they knew what their family would ultimately look like. They just thought wrong.

Their smaller-than-planned family is evident in another song on 2.0: "Full House."

"My wife and I both came into the marriage wanting four kids," the "In Case You Didn't Know" singer shares. "When we brought Rowan home from the hospital, I felt like the four of us were a complete unit. I was nervous to bring that up to [Taylor], but when I did she was like, 'I've been thinking the same thing.'"

Young is no stranger to writing about his family. He had a hit single in 2020 with "Lady," a song that pays homage to Taylor.

2.0 will be available on Friday, June 20.
