One Of Luke Combs' Early Hits Just Made History In Country Music

Luke Combs had no idea when he started writing songs in college that one of them would make history in country music, but that's exactly what happened. Combs is celebrating his fourth diamond-certified song (for sales in excess of ten million), with "She Got the Best of Me." The song makes Combs the only artist in country music to have four diamond-certified songs.

Combs found out the good news while he was headlining Bonnaroo last week, one day before the entire festival was canceled because of rain.

"Honored to have gotten the opportunity to headline Bonnaroo last night and I'll never forget it," Combs writes on social media. "Thank y'all for having us. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did Also can't believe a song I wrote while I was still in college before moving to Nashville is now diamond. Y'all are something else. Thank you!!"

"She Got the Best of Me" is Combs' fourth single, and fourth No. 1 hit. Included on This One's For You Too, the deluxe version of his freshman This One's For You, Combs penned the song with Channing Wilson and Rob Snyder. Not only did Combs make history with "She Got the Best of Me," but he is also second only to Garth Brooks with the total number of RIAA certifications. Combs to date has more than 155.5 million RIAA certified units.

Luke Combs' Next Musical Chapter

Combs has had plenty of success in country music, but his best days might be ahead of him. The 35-year-old reveals he has big plans for his next musical chapter, including expanding country music to reach a wider audience.

"The next frontier is expanding my limits to embrace people who want to destigmatize country music," Combs tells USA Today. "It's a fresh, different challenge."

If anyone is right for the task, it's Combs, who understands people's hesitation to embrace the genre he has come to deeply love.

"I'm passionate about country music and have a deep knowledge of its inner workings," Combs explains. "But I'm also someone who ran as far away from country music as I could and hated it, for a decade, when I was 10 or 11 years old. I eventually rediscovered my love for country music and feel like, though the genre might not be for everyone, some parts of the genre could be for anyone."
