NASCAR and racing as a whole wasn't typically getting a lot of love. The sport was a pretty niche interest, all things considered. Only certain subsections of people were watching F1 or knew about Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Consequently, the depictions of the culture in film is pretty sparse. The recent F1 movie with Brad Pitt should be a big summer hit. Will Ferrell's Talladega Nights was a hilarious examination of Bush era excess funneled through racing.

However, fans and NASCAR vets like Jeff Gordon tout Tony Scott and Tom Cruise's 1990 film Days of Thunder. It's one of the director's most underrated films, I would even go as far as to say it's better than Top Gun. Stock car racing shines as bright as ever, scorching southern heat encasing the film. As Hollywood continues its ventures into IP rehashing, is it possible Days of Thunder gets its chance to come back? According to Gordon, it's a guarantee.
Jeff Gordon Confirms Days of Thunder Sequel Rumors
Recently, the NASCAR great spoke with Road & Track, where he talks trying to bring in new fans to the racing sport. Additionally, Jeff highlights his relationship with Tom Cruise over the years. Apparently, he can personally confirm that Days of Thunder 2 is happening. "I mean, all I can say is... I've known Tom for many years and was on set this past year for 'Mission: Impossible,' and then I went to the premiere. And the first word out of his mouth is, 'We're doing it. We're doing Days of Thunder 2,'" Gordon says.
Moreover, he highlights that it'll be massive for his motorsports team as well since they played an integral part in the first film as well. Jeff sees it as a win-win for the sport and personally. "I'm all for it. Rick Hendrick is all for it. Hendrick Motorsports played a big role in the first Days of Thunder, and we'd love to do the same in this one. Again, you look at things that can help grow the sport. Look what Days of Thunder did for NASCAR in the '90s. I think it could very easily do the same if we were able to do this again," Gordon stresses.
