Sammy Kershaw, 90's country legend, has issued a friendly PSA after forgetting about a loaded firearm in his luggage when traveling. He was struck with a shock, then a fine by the TSA.

The singer has been going from state to state to perform at a series of sold-out shows and festivals. After his show in Los Angeles, he hit the Lafayette Regional Airport to catch a flight out of town for his next show.
However, there was one very unlawful item in his luggage that the TSA flagged.
Sammy Kershaw had a loaded handgun in his carry-on.
Both the TSA and FBI attended the situation, and he was let off, but not without a $5,000 fine. Being caught with a loaded gun at the airport can be a huge deal. The max fine the TSA can give out for this offence is just shy of $15,000. It must have been abundantly clear it was an accident on Kershaw's part.
The singer himself commented on the situation, which his publicist, Absolute Publicity shared in an article recapping the events.
Sammy Kershaw Was "Clearly Not Thinking Straight" The Morning Of The Flight
With Sammy Kershaw going from place to place doing shows, it is easy to believe that he was simply tired that morning and forgot to double-check his luggage.
He said so himself, "It was early, I was half-awake and clearly not thinking straight."
"I've sang songs about heartbreak and hard times but not about forgetting to check my carry-on for a loaded firearm. That's a new one!" he joked.
"I guess it's safe to say I won't be packing heat to my next show," he continued. "Let this be your friendly PSA: check your bags, check 'em twice. Let's all stay safe out there."
I'm just waiting for the next Sammy Kershaw song where he goes over the perils of forgetting your loaded weapon in your luggage. Of all the days to be a little forgetful...
It doesn't look like this incident has impeded the singer at all, so if you're expecting to see him, don't worry about any cancellations or delays.
