Y: Marshalls is the latest Yellowstone spin-off to be announced. Although it's expected to air next year, Luke Grimes has already been getting us excited for it. As I believe it's the spiritual sequel to Yellowstone, I'm sure they'll be going in hard with this show.
When talking to PEOPLE about Y: Marshalls, Luke Grimes has only good things to say.
Grimes' first thought when approached about the spin-off was simply, "Where do you go from there?" He was not disappointed with their idea for the plot, however.
"We definitely wanted to make sure to give it a real story and make it interesting and make it believable," said Grimes. "If it was just like, 'well, he's happy' — we're just going to watch him be happy? That's not very cool. But I'll say this, the idea that was pitched to me is very, very good and very interesting and it really roped me in and I think it will rope the audience in as well."
Now that's some high praise.
Luke Grimes Didn't Think He'd Be Playing Kayce Dutton Again
When filming for Yellowstone wrapped, Luke Grimes didn't think he'd ever play Kayce Dutton again.
"On the last day of shooting, I thought it was my last day as Kayce." He continued, "It was over to me. It was seven years of playing a person that I'll never see again, except for having his hat and jacket in my closet. It wasn't until probably three or four months after that that everything started aligning for the [spinoff]."
Finishing with Yellowstone was "a lot bigger of a life moment than [he] thought it would be."
"To try to put that show away, it was hard. It was really hard, and I know this is going to sound weird, but it was sort of emotional. It was like losing a family in a way."
But ultimately, he knew that no one wanted Yellowstone to end.
"I don't think the fans wanted it to be over. A lot of us actors kind of didn't want it to be over, and the studio and network certainly didn't want it to be over."
