The "Play It Again" singer has been on tour, but his plans have been scuppered thanks to a sickness that is not letting up. It may have reared its head a week ago when he lost his voice on stage. Unhappy with his performance, he promised to refund all tickets despite pushing through the show.

It seems that his illness has developed, causing him to cancel upcoming shows this weekend. He took to X to announce the sad news. "I'm really sorry to say I won't be able to play this weekend's shows due to continued illness. I've been hoping to rally, but my voice is just not there yet," he wrote.

All is not lost, however, as Eric Church has stepped in. The Chief is a master of live shows, so those Luke Bryan ticket holders may be getting even more than they bargained for.

"Huge thanks to my buddy [Eric Church] for stepping in last minute — and of course, putting on a kick ass show like he always does," Bryan continued. "Sitting still is not what I do best so I can't wait to be back soon."

Eric Church To Fill In For Upcoming Shows

Eric Church also posted to X to share a little about what people can expect from his impromptu shows. He's had no time to prepare, yet he'll still knock it out of the park.

He's set to stand in for Luke Bryan's shows at Thursday's Country Stampede in Kansas, Friday's NebraskaLand Days in Nebraska, and Saturday's Country Jam in Colorado.

"Festivals are part of the fabric of what made us who we are," Church wrote. "Happy to fill in for Luke while he's on the mend. Not a lot of time to plan or get the whole crew and band together, so I'm bringing [Joanna Cotton] and we're gonna do something unique and spontaneous."

Not seeing Luke Bryan may be disappointing to some. But seeing Eric Church on such short notice must be a nice surprise.
