Dale Earnhardt Jr. Reveals One of The Proudest Moments of His NASCAR Career

Dale Earnhardt Jr's resume speaks for itself. Between his work behind the wheel and on the tracks and in support of future generations, he's really built the legendary career for himself. It's not a situation where he's scratching to fill his father's legacy. Rather, it's completely distinct to his own life. It's something his old man would be proud of if he was still alive today. However, out of all the iconic moments in his NASCAR career, there's one moment in particular that sticks out for Dale.

Recently, Earnhardt Jr. addressed one of the questions in the Q&A portion of his podcast. There, he opens up about racing legend Mark Martin. On June 23rd, he shared a short story about how keen he was about learning from someone at the peak of their powers. Consequently, one of his listeners wants Dale to open up a little more about it. Ultimately, it's his desire to get better that sees him study that day at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Earnhardt Jr. argues that he might've learned more from Martin than he did his own dad. That's what makes finally beating Mark Martin all the sweeter.

"Man, it was something. I'll never forget it. Mark, you know, I would end up racing Mark a little bit throughout the year in '98 and '99. One of my proudest moments was passing him at Richmond on the outside and beating him. Heads up, holy s***," Dale recalls.

"Oh man, I was proud, because I knew Dad was watching and all that. And Mark has always been so, so supportive to me, friendly to me. We were teammates. But he taught me, and everyone else, during those years when he was racing the Xfinity series so much. And he was such a great example for folks like me to sort of try to emulate," Earnhardt Jr. continues.

"I might be Dale Earnhardt's son, but I'll be honest, a lot of the things that I learned on the race track and what I was able to do as a driver in my career are due to Mark Martin and what he taught me. So he was a great guy to race against and learn from."
