The 4 Best Beer-Drinking Country Songs for the Fourth of July

Celebrating the Fourth of July with a barbecue and a cold beer is as American as apple pie. However, your get-together is going to need the perfect soundtrack. If you're stuck on what to put on your playlist, here are four songs about the official drink of your backyard bash to get your party going.

Tom T. Hall - " I Like Beer"

One wonders what Hall would think of the plethora of alcoholic (and non-alcoholic) drinks available today, especially when this humorous little novelty hit about the songwriter's love for a drink with water, hops, barley and yeast makes him "a jolly good fellow" even though his vermouth drinking wife thinks a sipping back a cold one makes him "uncouth."

Hall, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019, implores listeners to put away the Jack ("whiskey's too rough"), leave that bottle of Dom on the shelf ("costs too much") and keep the Stoli in the fridge ("vodka puts my mouth in gear") because the most essential item your barbecue should have is, you guessed it, beer.

Billy Currington - "Pretty Good At Drinkin' Beer"

Currington's status as a country music superstar will never be in doubt. However, as the lyrics of this 2010 party song claim, he won't be able to work on digging holes, paving roads, climbing poles, working in banks, fixing cars, mowing grass, cleaning windows or any other occupation should his fame and talent suddenly disappear. The one thing Currington can fall back on is drinking beer.

A man should be able to do what he truly loves. If Currington loves "the nightlife" and his Bud Lights "cold and tall," then he should follow his passion. Thankfully, he also loves playing guitar and performing. That's why we can't imagine the soundtrack to our backyard party without this song.

Luke Combs - "Beer Never Broke My Heart"

If your burgers get burnt at your barbecue or your best friend brings over some tofu hot dogs, it won't be the end of the world. Just follow the sage advice of Combs. When life hands him lemons, he reaches for a long-neck, ice-cold beer because, as the title of his 2019 hit makes clear, it never breaks his heart.

The best part of this ode to drinking is that it's a song everyone at your Fourth of July celebration can love. The guitar is loud enough for the rockers in your life, and its lyrics are what fans of country music love about the genre. While we may not be able to count on lovers and politicians, we can count on Combs to deliver the perfect anthem for the summer.

Toby Keith featuring Willie Nelson - "Beer For My Horses"

This classic tune by the late great Keith is as patriotic as they come. He and Nelson sing about saddling up the boys "to draw a hard line," only to meet back at the bar to sing "whiskey for my men, beer for my horses." If this isn't what the Fourth of July is about, then we don't know what is.
