HGTV Host Speaks Out After Network Cancels Another Show

HGTV has cancelled yet another one of its shows. A trend they seem to be continuing since cancelling Bargain Block around June 18th. This time, Alison Victoria and her show, Battle on the Beach, got hit. I honestly didn't realize that HGTV was doing this poorly. Maybe people have ditched the cable channels for streaming services more heavily than I thought. Hopefully the rest of her shows manage to make it through the cuts.

HGTV Streamlining Their Shows?

I don't know about streamlining, but HGTV is definitely cutting down. Battle on the Beach was not the first title to be dropped by the channel. And there's a good chance it won't be the last.

Victoria talked about getting her show cancelled on the most recent episode of her podcast. The Pap Smear episode where she hosted Retta.

On the podcast, she talks about what it's like getting the show cancelled and theorises why it may have happened. (Of course, she doesn't really know why, but what else are podcasts for?)

On the show getting cancelled, she states, "Battle on the Beach did not get picked back up, which is sad, because it was like adult spring break."

Which, I don't know if any of you actually watched the show before HGTV cancelled it, but....not sure that's my personal assessment.

Don't get me wrong, it was a ton of fun. It was a team-based competition where people had to flip beachfront properties. And the contestants went crazy sometimes. I mean, truly some impressive stuff. But I'm not entirely sure about what she means when she calls it 'adult spring break'.

Why Was The Show Cancelled?

Once again, we have no idea. And we may never have any idea. But Alison Victoria sure has some ideas. And she is telling the world all about them on Pap Smear.

Of the cancelled HGTV show, she says, "I believe it was all editing." Um, all editing? You think the reason the show didn't get picked back up was because the editors screwed you over? I'm not sure if I'm buying it, but I'll hear her out.

She also stated, "It was so fun and funny, and then all of a sudden, I watched the episode, I'm like, well, where'd all that go? I get it, it's a lot of content to try to put into 42 minutes, but where is it? Where's the great editing?" She then ended her thought with, "You'll lose a show that way. I truly believe that."

Ultimately, though, who's to say? Hopefully, her other shows have a nice, long run, and maybe her podcast will start to take off?
