'80s Singer Calls Out TV Host For Yawning During Interview

It doesn't really matter how you sugarcoat it. This isn't a great look for anybody. Yawning during an interview is a terrible look as a professional TV Host. And calling someone out usually makes you look like the bad guy. Especially if you're diva extraordinaire, Rick Springfield.

Yawning As A TV Host: Flattering?

Almost definitely not flattering. In any way at all. Ever.

The whole situation went down on last Wednesday's episode of the NBC Show 3rd Hour of Today. The show is hosted by Craig Melvin (the yawner in question).

Rick Springfield was talking about what was most likely his greatest hit, "Jessie's Girl", as the host yawned. And do not act like you've never heard the song before because I know you all have. You clicked on an article about an '80s singer. But in case you need a refresher:

Yeah, one of the best.

But anyway, during the interview, as Rick chatted about this hit song, Craig yawned. Luckily, it was off camera. (Don't need the viewing public to know how rude he is.) However, Mr. Springfield was not about to let that slide.

Springfield looked Craig in the eyes and asked him, "Am I boring you?" I know, right? That's one of the most awesome things I've heard in a while.

The confrontation lasted all of about twelve seconds, though. Craig Melvin, looking very flustered, responded with, "I actually-you're not at all, I apologize."

Then, Springfield de-escalated the situation as quickly as he'd escalated it. He jokingly replied, "It's early, don't worry about it, I'll yawn too."

Finding The Humor In It

Leave it to a man who spends all his time on stage to get the interview back in motion.

The host tried to explain himself after getting teased. Naturally, he looked for any other reason why his mouth would have been wide open. He even tried to blame it on a cough. But his co-hosts were having none of it.

Al Roker and Jill Martin were much too busy laughing to listen to any cover-up story.

Luckily, no bad blood seems to have materialized from the yawning incident. Rick Springfield even shouted out the show on his Facebook page.

Just remember, folks, hold those bad boys in when you're on live TV.
