Is Carrie Underwood wearing out her welcome with fans? On Wednesday, NBC announced that the "Before He Cheats" singer and American Idol judge will be belting out the theme song for Sunday Night Football for the 13th consecutive season. That should have made fans elated. Instead, however, some seem somewhat disgruntled and eager for a new voice in the role.

Per The Spun, "Even though Underwood teased 'high energy and stunning visuals' for this year's opening song, NFL fans aren't exactly amped up to hear it."
Fans Did Not Hold Back on Social Media
People let fly on X with their opinions of Underwood doing the Sunday gridiron theme for NBC. Some were outright negative and thumbs-down. Others were excited.
Said one, "Maybe pick someone else."
Voiced another, "Boring...Mix it up little. Damn."
This person was blunt. "Enough of her terrible song."
A poster weighed in with, "Might be time to move on to someone who is actually relevant."
Some comments were much more positive, like this one. "She is wonderful."
The Network Apparently Has a Revamp Planned for Underwood's NFL Intro This Season
Per the outlet, NBC Sports Group Creative Director Tripp Dixon said, "For the 20th season of SNF, we wanted to set the tone for the night by reimagining the anthem sound in a way that plays to Carrie's powerhouse vocals, while visually creating a seamless blend of stylized shots and behind-the-scenes moments evoking the national roadshow that is Sunday Night Football, week after week in the fall."
So we can likely expect some juiced-up pizzazz this season as the backdrop for Underwood's anthem. Whether that will win over the chorus of naysayers remains to be seen.
Underwood Sounds Enthused
The singer said, "As always, Tripp and the creative team continue to raise the bar, bringing the high energy and stunning visuals that the Sunday Night Football audience has come to expect year after year. I can't wait for the world to see it!"
At the age of 42, the country-pop star has won just about every award imaginable. That includes honors from the Grammys, the ACM, and the CMA, plus others. Does she still have the hearts of the public? We'll see!
